New Year, Same (wonderful) You

Guys,

I have to say, I’m feeling a little belligerent this year.

I am completely over the push to change myself at the beginning of the year. I think it’s disrespectful to all of the stuff that came before, and the challenges that are still waiting for me. I don’t want to hold myself to an arbitrary standard when it comes to change. I want to change when I’m ready.

FURTHERMORE (Auntie Melissa is having feelings)

I think I’m pretty goddamn great the way I am.

Of course I have things to work on, and sure, I have goals, but they’re run by me. They’re not running me.

So, I have a little challenge for you today. And because it’s hard to say nice things about ourselves, I’m going to play, too. Let’s see how we can honor ourselves as we are.

I want you to write three things you don’t want to change about yourself. You can email them to me at hello@melissacynova.com if you wanna.

I want you to think of one way you can expand those things. The rule is, though, the expansion can’t be hard or punitive. It has to be fun or easy. Sound good?

Here’s mine.

  1. I’m a good mother.
    • I’m going to put my phone away when my kids are home and stare at them until they’re paranoid. Just kidding, we’re going to watch Steven Universe and do puzzles.
  2. I’m a good writer.
    • I’m going to take time with my next project and not turn it in until it’s nearly finished so that I can create without feeling like the Sword of Damocles is hanging over my head.
  3. I can nap SO WELL.
    • I will keep napping. It helps me with my back pain and makes me more alert in the afternoon. Also, naps.

Next week, we’re going to talk about New Year, Same other folks – we’re going to talk about expectations that we have about others. As always, you can reach out for a reading at www.melissacynova.com

Xoxo!

Lis
