Money, Money, Money

You might notice some changes on my website. The email readings are gone for now, but never fear, they’ll be back soon!  You’ll no longer have to schedule email readings. March has become a money month for me. It’s when I do my taxes, redo the budget, and figure out which projects we need to save for. I map out my year in October, but March seems so much more idealistic and hopeful, and that’s the kind of energy I want to bring to my finances.

Lots of my clients have the same relationship that I used to have with money. Money was in charge of me. It led the way. I only checked my bank account when I was anxious, and kind of crossed my fingers to get from payday to payday. 

The thing is, I don’t like being afraid. It pisses me off. 

I read a great book called Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey (Which you can get on Amazon marketplace for a few bucks, or from the library), and started working on the program that it detailed.

I’m happy to say that money is now my bitch.

Some things that have helped me are simple/hard. They’re simple to do, but emotionally taxing and kind of scary. Remind yourself though, that you only have to do it once.

1. Make a spreadsheet of your bills and debts
2. Make a budget and then give it the Eye. Be decisive about where you spend your money
3. See what you can cut out so that you can….
4. Work until you have 1000 in savings.
5. Start with the smallest bill and throw all of your money at it until it’s gone.
6. Then, take that payment and apply it to the next smallest bill (debt snowball)
7. Keep going. 

Remember that your savings account is sacrosanct. No touching.
