Deck Review Interview

Today is about letting go. Enough with standing still and wading through obstacles. Break through and make it happen. -Zaheroux

I found a new deck!  On Etsy, of all places.  Who would have guessed that you can get knitted Jayne hats and tarot decks from the same place?  Nice.  Anyway, it’s a black and white deck, which I’ve never used before.  I was concerned about that, but the pictures were so engaging, I thought I’d give it a shot.

The cards are big.  They’re not *too* big, but almost.  The card stock is good and they feel good in my hands.  I gave one reading to a friend, and it was fantastic.  The komodo dragon came up to represent her son, and she told me that dragons are *his* animal.  Which was cool.  I gave a second reading, and the beaver card (snicker) came up – in this reading, the client was supposed to split her time between land and water – just like a beaver.  Also, it made both of us giggle uncontrollably, because emotionally we’re 12 year old boys sometimes.

The readings were good, the symbology was strong and I dig my new deck.  They have kind of a hoodoo feel to them – lots of bones.  They feel heavy with magic and intent.  I feel like these will be in my deck rotation for a long time.

Megan, or Zaheroux, which is her badass artist handle, was nice enough to fill out the Tarot Questionnaire Thinger for me.  🙂  Her work can be found here:    Etsy , Facebook , tumblr and instagram I ordered my deck off of Etsy and got it in less than a week.  Seriously.

Megan – thanks for the lovely art and for doing the thing.  🙂  Cheers!

Very few people can embody the creepy/attractive vibe.  Nailed it.

What you appreciate the most in your friends.

Their laughter and support. As I get older, I end up picking quality over quantity. I’ve cut ties with lots of people in my life and I don’t feel ashamed. It needs to happen sometimes. I wish them good fortune on their way and push forward.
The friends I keep close are some of the best people in the world. Each one is valued for who they are. (And getting drunk with them is always entertaining!)

Your idea of happiness.

To be free to experience life as it is meant to be experienced.

Your idea of misery.

Not having a purpose of -some- kind.

Where would you like to live?

Haha, ideally there are two places I would have a hard time picking from.

The first one would be a cabin in the middle of the woods somewhere. This cabin would be a wonderfully witchy place and full of wildlife!

The second would be New Orleans. I visited once as a teenager and just fell hard in love with the city. The beautiful balconies of the French Quarter, after seeing them in person, inspired a lot of my bold borders I use in my work – which I call “metalwork”.

 Creepy/cool.  Very cool

Your favorite colors and flowers.

My favorite colors are white, black and red.

My favorite flowers are Queen Anne’s Lace and red roses. (I’m a bit of a romantic at heart!)

Your favorite poets.

I’m not a huge poetry fan – well not enough to know what I’m talking about, hah! But I have always enjoyed the writings of Walt Whitman, Transcendentalists Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.

Your heroes in fiction.

Since I was 4 years old…Batman!

She's the hero that New Orleans deserves, but not the one it needs right now....

Your heroines in fiction.

Hermione Granger from Harry Potter – I may never have been as smart as Hermione, but I respect her integrity and pride. She also reminds us that you can’t be perfect all the time, its human to feel, to grow, to adapt.

Bayonetta from the Bayonetta video games – Good gourd the woman is sexy as hell! Not to mention she is also a witch. Win-win! She inspires me to embrace my sexuality as a woman. Or maybe I just have the hots for her…

Your heroes in real life.

Whether he believes me or not, my husband, haha. No, no crazy drama filled love story here of that he saved my life literally – he just keeps me grounded when my head has run off into the clouds. Which…let’s be honest, is quite the task for anyone when it comes to me and my ideas.

Your heroines in real life?

Artistically – Frida Kahlo. The woman was fearless. She had such a fascinating life. Her artwork speaks volumes to me – her pain, her struggles with love, and yet she continued to be herself. She didn’t let anything change that and that is something to be greatly admired.
Her work also appeals to my own Mexican heritage.

Personally – My mom. Words can’t really express how wonderful of a woman she is and how blessed I am to be her daughter. Each day she amazes me with her wit, kindness and strength. We both share a love of the spiritual and honoring our Romanian and Mexican ancestors. As I get older, she has become a best friend, not just my mom. I only fear what trouble we could get into unsupervised! I hope one day, when I actually grow up, to be just like her!

What is your present state of mind?

One that desires change. I have been waiting for change to happen for a while. Life has been very stagnant lately. Ever see the movie Chocolat? If you have, at one point, Vianne, the main character, stands on a dock and feels the wind calling to her. Her face, her whole attitude in that moment is exactly how I feel. Waiting for the wind to carry me off to something new.

What is your favorite tarot deck or divination tool?

Without ego, my own. My decks allowed me to finally learn the cards of tarot and creating my own deck gave me a chance to connect to divinity on my own terms. Plus….I may be a little biased. I feel like I would be cheating on my own deck if I said anything otherwise, haha!

Some recommendations for decks:
The Wooden Tarot by skullgarden – an incredibly stunning and surreal indie deck
.  The Halloween Tarot by Karen Lee/Kipling West – who doesn’t love Halloween…seriously?

Your favorite songs?

Hmmm…This is hard to pick. I don’t really have a favorite song – I like too many!
I do completely enjoy video game soundtracks and am partial to many musical artists.

Some favorite artists: Lady Gaga, Empire of the Sun, Capital Cities, The Glitch Mob

What is your favorite word?

Dammit!

What is your least favorite word?

Never really thought about it. Words are words, it is all about how you use and express them.

What sound or noise do you love?

The sound of thunder, the wind in the trees, the purr of a cat

What sound or noise do you hate?

The evil vacuum…..Ugh…just horrible.

What turns you on?

Long hair and something as simple as a kiss on the back of the hand.

Thanks, Megan!  And your, um, little buddy there....
Thanks, Megan!  And your, um, little buddy there….

What turns you off?

Not letting me have my own opinion – in the sense of once I give it, you better damn respect it even if you don’t like it. Just acknowledge what I have to say.

What is your favorite curse word?

Do all of them count….?

If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates

“Ya did good, kiddo. Ready to go back, again?”
