Interview

Tarot is about you, your journey, and your cards. – Ellen Herget

I did a fundraiser last year for Stray Rescue, and I met some new local readers.  This is a big deal, guys.  I know some readers, but I don’t know that there’s an actual Tarot Community ™ here in St. Louis.  Not like you T.W.A.T’s in Wisconsin, anyway.  It’s always a delight to meet local readers, and it was especially cool to meet Ellen.

I loved her confidence, and the matter of fact way that she met her clients.  I sat right next to her all night, and if I’d had time to count all of the “Wow!”s, there would have been…well..a lot.  I didn’t count, I was busy, BUT, I know that this woman knows her stuff.  You can find Ellen at Mystic Valley on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and at the Fortune Teller Bar on weekends.  She also does private readings and parties.  I like giving exposure to other readers, and especially my St. Louis people. (represent!)  Here is a Tarot Questionnaire, by St. Louis’ own Ellen!

TAROT QUESTIONNAIRE!

1.  What you appreciate the most in your friends.

My friends are a hardworking, ingenious people, socially conscious, interested in a wide range of topics, and able to control themselves for the most part. They are also all cute and fun.

2.  Your idea of happiness.

Continuing to work in my field, make music for sanity, and keep up my relationships.

3.  Your idea of misery.

Should be kept secret, as I have enemies.  (O.o – LFT)

4.  Where would you like to live?

St. Louis is my favorite city. Wasn’t I lucky, to be born in my favorite city? (yup. -LFT)

5.  Your favorite colors and flowers.

Colors: Every color makes me think of a different member of my family; I like all colors. Purple and orange are the colors I associate with myself.

Flowers: Lilacs.

6.  Your favorite poets.

Should be kept secret, as they are my friends.

7/8.  Your favorite heroes/heroines in fiction.

I am a nerd for a lot of heroes: Roland of Gilead, Arya Stark, Captain Mal Reynolds, Laura Ingalls and her Pa (somewhat fictionalized), Kara Thrace, and I can’t even tell if the Vikings show is good because I may just be attracted to the entire cast. But! My favorite hero in fiction is Larry from The Stand, because he is an anti-hero, and a complete dick, but he figures his shit out. He figures out the end game, and it’s Buddhist as Fuck.

9/10.  Your heroes/heroines in real life.

I am lucky enough to have a triad of lady ancestors that taught me every path to the light was a good path. My paternal grandmother, Vi, ran a dry-cleaner’s union. My maternal grandmother, Hazel, was the embodiment of gentility combined with perseverance–she wasn’t supposed to live past her childhood (I think this was due to asthma). My godmother, Shirley, was a journalist after her graduation from Wash U in 1950, and traveled all over the world. They basically told me to be generous, prioritize loyalty, and take zero shit.

11.  What is your present state of mind?

Jesus, dude. I’m just trying to make it. And I’m hungry. I should have gone out for burgers earlier. I love the Iowa Buffet.

12.  What is your favorite tarot deck or divination tool?

I have found the Joie de Vivre deck to have the best rapport with my clients. I like the Sun and Moon deck for its simplicity, and I like the Prairie Tarot because it’s lovely.

13.  Your favorite songs?

How much time do you have? I don’t mean to be a jerk, but I can’t even begin to answer this. (that doesn’t make you a jerk. Also, Ellen is in a BAND.  She is so goddamned cool. -LFT)

14.  What is your favorite word?

Hyperbolic.

15.  What is your least favorite word?

Recalcitrant. It’s a word applied to people I tend to like, though.

16.  What sound or noise do you love?

People I love having casual conversation.

17.  What sound or noise do you hate?

Animals fighting for NO REASON. *glares angrily at cats*

18.  What turns you on?

Individuality, respect, cultural relativity, giving a shit.

19.  What turns you off?

Nihilism. It’s lazy, guys.

20.  What is your favorite curse word?

They’re all great, I can’t choose, though I have recently coined the term “shitballs ridiculous.”

21.  If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

“We have cheese here. And crackers, of course.”
