Book Review

The Divine loves us and wants us to be happy – Barbara Moore

You can literally count the days to tarot mastery........ok...I'm sorry. That was cheesy.

One of the best parts of publishing Kitchen Table tarot with Llewellyn is that they ask if I’ll review books, decks and calendars, and then they SEND THEM to me. I know, right? So I did receive this calendar for review, but honestly, it was already in my Amazon list.

This calendar is reminiscent of the Llewellyn Witches calendar. I used that So much when I was a little baby witch, fresh out of the broom closet. Information is presented in such a way that you can learn tips, spreads and tarot history in little bite-sized pieces. Easier to digest this way.

The calendar months include a spread, focus on particular symbols, tarot history and journal prompts. The decks used are all Llewellyn tarot decks, and are all just beautiful. There were some I hadn’t seen before. My only disappointment in this calendar is that none of the faces that are featured belong to people of color. Hopefully, it will next year.

The breakdown of the symbols is very helpful. Did you know that the Magician’s belt in the RWS deck is an Ouroboros? Me, neither! I love these little details that make the card so distinct and enhance the meaning of the cards.

One of the best parts of the calendar are four pages in the back that give you tips about starting your tarot journey, a glossary, breakdowns of the suits and numbers used, and a Celtic Cross tutorial. The Fool’s Journey is also summarized and reads like a story. I love the idea of learning the Major Arcana in story form instead of one by one.

The tarot decks used in the calendar are these:

The Shadowscapes Tarot, The Steampunk Tarot, The Lo Scarabeo Tarot, Modern Spellcaster’s Tarot, The Victorian Fairy Tarot, The Rider Waite Smith Tarot, the Wizard’s Tarot, Everyday Witch Tarot, Animal Totem Tarot, Mystic Faerie Tarot, Celtic Tarot, and the Green Witch Tarot.

There is also a great list of books on the last page, featuring work from Scott Martin, Rachel Pollack, Barbara Moore and Nancy “The Nucc” Antenucci.
