Deck Review Interview

…I live in my own flames sometimes burning too bright and too wild to make things last… -Charlotte Eriksson

Sometimes, when I’m feeling bored or antsy or writer’s block-y, I search for new tarot decks.  Kind of obsessively.  I’ve found the Linestrider Tarot and the Silhouettes Tarot in this way.  I like supporting new tarot artists.  I like finding something that makes me go, “Oh, holy shit!”.  I love the new interpretations of the card, and I just adore hearing from artists how they got to the final card.

This time, I’ve found a deck that is wholly new to me.  As much as I love Wonder Woman, I’m not familiar with a lot of comic book art – manga, anime – all that.  It’s not that I don’t like it, just that I don’t have experience with it.

Are you kidding me with these?  Amaze.

I found Danny Hirajeta’s deck on Kickstarter, and now I’m just all obsessed.  Not only is there diversity in the cards – diversity of body shape, character color, culture – but his cards hold onto the RWS translation pretty firmly while spinning out into a wholly different interpretation.  In short, they’re fucking awesome.

As part of the Kickstarter, he drew me this.

Lookit - I'm a Foxy Card Slinger!  Badass!

These cards are wild and a little desperate in their need to be heard and kind of joyful in their “Welp, that’s the worst thing that could happen – now what are you going to do?” attitude.  I can’t wait to get my hands on them, and then I’m going to do a review and an interview with Danny.

In the meantime, check out his work.  It’s wonderful.
