Melissa Cynova As you might maybe know, I’ve been reading the cards in PERSON for 30 years. I didn’t start with this Ms. Cleo phone reading business until about 15 years ago. I didn’t think it would work. I mean, people asked me how I did in person readings, and the answers I had for that ran from “My intuition is talking to your intuition and the cards are a tool that facilitates that.” to “Fuck if I know.”
A reading over the phone seemed impossible. I believe that folks had their own energy, and that by reading for them long distance would make picking up on that energy impossible. WELL, you could have knocked me over with a feather.
I gave a reading to a friend in Texas on the phone (I’m in St. Louis (holla)) I gave all of my excuses and qualifiers and started and it went really well! Then she had to go and said, “Just email me the rest.” Seriously? My first phone reading was also my first email reading? Bullshit.
I typed up the reading and at the end wrote, “Hey, are you wearing a gray hoodie and playing with your feet?” She called seconds later and said, “How in the hell did you know that?!?”
SO! Ms. Cleo it is.
The DOING of it isn’t much different than in person readings, but I have a few tips for you.
Phone readings:
- First you need to practice. Don’t wing it. Call your bff and offer them a phone reading and see how it goes. Then do it again. Then do it again.
- While you’re shuffling the cards, tell the client (or person) to take a deep breath and let you know when to stop shuffling.
- After this, cut them in three piles and ask the client which pile you should read with.
- Just do your normal reading after this! Seriously. Just do your thing.
Email readings:
These are the only readings that I get questions for. It’s just too fucking hard to zoom in on someone through email.
- Get the question. Yes or no questions generally suck for the tarot. Most questions are about sex, love and money (and god).
- Take a deep breath and shuffle the cards until YOU feel like you’re finished.
- Cut the cards, lay them out and take a pic for the client (person).
- Attach the pic to the email – put the person’s email at the top so they can see what they asked, and then do your reading.
- I generally type out the story of the reading, and only mention the cards that came up. (E.g.: Queen of Swords, Three of Cups, Four of Wands – needing to complete an idea with the help of friends to transition to another level.)
- Hit send!
