I’ve been teaching tarot by using pop culture for years (the Emperor is Cartman from South Park – with more money). It’s a fun way to learn and it helps people get in touch with a simple descriptor of the card so they can build on it.
My husband challenged me to match the Major Arcana with the Looney Tunes. Challenge accepted, buddy. After this one, I’ll be taking suggestions for pop culture suggestions (Firefly is next), so let me know what you think of the new feature “Pop Goes the Tarot”.

The Fool – Wile E. Coyote – Super Genius. He never thinks about consequences until he’s in thin air. Luckily, he bounces back quickly. The Magician – Bugs Bunny – one time he actually pulled HIMSELF out of a hat. This guy knows all the tricks and always comes out on top. The High Priestess – Granny is always one step ahead of the bad guy, and has an unwavering gaze on what’s important. The Empress – Witch Hazel – I have loved WH since before I was a witch. She’s enthusiastic, funny, self-centered in the best way, and sexy when she wants to be. She’s also got some inherent magical mojo that makes her a force to reckon with. The Emperor – Daffy Duck – Daffy is the boss (even when he isn’t) He sticks to his principles regardless of opposition or common sense. The Hierophant – Marvin the Martian – blueprints and studying and practicing for days. The Lovers – Pepe Le Pew – L’amour. So intense. The Chariot – Speedy Gonzalez – charging straight ahead. With style. Strength – Henery Hawk – He can lift a whole chicken, and seems to be bulletproof. Hermit – Cecil Turtle – Goes at his own pace Wheel – Gossamer – Sometimes he’s the biggest bad guy out there, and sometimes he’s afraid of his own reflection. Depends on the day. (my favorite guy) Justice – Porky Pig – Even when things are falling apart, he keeps his eye on the goal Hanged Man – Miss Prissy – This little chicken just knows that one day she’ll find her man. She just has to be patient. Death – The Road Runner – ever constant, never changing, always present. Also scares the bejeesus out of the Coyote on a regular basis. Temperance – Tweety Bird – His disposition never changes, regardless of what’s going on around him. Devil – Tasmanian Devil – goes without saying. Tower – Sylvester – he can’t seem to get his plans together before they fall apart at his feet Star – Sam Sheepdog – this gentle guy protects his flock at all costs Moon – Sylvester, Jr – This little cat is sure that the other shoe is going to fall, and often drops it on his own head. Sun – Marc Antony – This bulldog would do anything to protect his little kitten, Pussyfoot. He is a Good Dog. Judgement – Yosemite Sam – A rootin’, tootin’ pain in the ass who is all consumed with what is fair. World – Elmer Fudd – He’s either on top of the world as a mighty hunter, or beating himself up for his failings. He’s the beginning and the end.
