I found Kimberly on Instagram. I believe someone re-posted one of her drawings and I immediately fell into a rabbit hole of beautiful, relevant, quirky tarot art. I’m a sucker for artists, especially those that make me laugh. There is a light-heartedness surrounding Kimberly’s art and tarot work. Although I will sit down with a heavy deck (Hey, Mary-El. Wanna make me cry again?), I am an optimist at heart, and I want my spreads and cards to have hope more often than not.
Kimberly knows her cards, knows what a pain in the ass white borders on tarot cards can be, and knows what it’s like to be stalked by tarot cards. It’s wonderful to have someone drawing and speaking to the tarot community. l am a fan. Check out her work – you will be, too.

1. What you appreciate the most in your friends.
Their in-your-face humour and hysterical quirks, and the fact that they are always one Facebook message away from hanging out, chilling’ and drinking copious amounts of bubble tea (with me).
2. Your idea of happiness.
Happiness, for me, is two things: authenticity, and gratitude. When you’re being yourself, unhindered by ego-driven tendencies and society’s norms and expectations—when you’re in that carefree state, that genuine embodiment of your spirit—you’re happy because you are in a flowing state of being. And gratitude is a no-brainer—you gotta appreciate the things you already have in your life and recognize the fullness and magic you are able to create and experience simply because you are tuning in.
Actually, three things. The third thing is bubble tea.
3. Your idea of misery.
When you can’t be yourself…when you are forced to choose between parts of yourself or suppress who you really are.
4. Your favorite colors and flowers.
I tend to go through phases with colours. My recent obsession has been turquoise, aquamarine and cornflower blue—the light greenish shades of blue. My favourite flower has always been the sunflower. It’s brimming with positivity, optimism, freedom, and child-likeness.
5. Your favorite poets.
Rumi, Richard Cohn, and Nirmala.
6. Your heroes/heroines in fiction.
Diarmuid from Fionavar Tapestry. The handsome, melancholy lover and the brave knight in shiny armour. Ser Sandor Clegane (aka the Hound) from Game of Thrones, for no fucks are given when he cuts through the pretense of a supposedly chivalrous world. Monkey King fromJourney to the West: trickster, warrior, sage. Last but not least, Selendra the Dragon Maiden (she’s like literally a dragon) from Tooth and Claw, for her unwavering innocence, her determination and her fearlessness when she is confronted by society’s expectations and judgment.
7. What role does divination play in your life?
It’s my way of life. (Translation: tarot. Tarot decks everywhere.) But yeah, I rely on tarot’s synchronicity and its wisdom to remind me of the magic, power and creativity that exist within me. I think divination really just serves as a way to channel our own inner wisdom and power, to open portals for us to connect with our spirit and the bigger reality.
8. Your heroes/heroines in real life.
My parents (quite literally and figuratively my makers) whose immense love and dedication to their children are all the light that I need.
My little brother, for his maturity, edgy intelligence and trollish humour—he helps me see the world in fresh, interesting ways, and I get to experience this while being trapped in his room with his fart. Huzzah.
And last but not least, the wise unicorn Kelly-Ann Maddox: cardslinger, chaos-witch, and loving teacher. Who inspired me to pick up a deck of cards…and well. The rest is history.
9. What is your present state of mind?
Grateful. And craving more tea.

Intestines. Nothing personal against intestines, but that word just sounds kind of yucky doesn’t it? Also Subscription. I always trip on those consonants. It drives me nuts. Subsbsbsbcriptpbption.
14. What sound or noise do you love?
The sound my cat makes when he’s trying to run up the stairs and meowing at the same time. It’s this cute mixture of gurgle and purr.
15. What sound or noise do you hate?
Sharp things against a glass pane. Styrofoam rubbing against each other.
16. What turns you on?
Tomato beef noodle soup. Bubble tea. The smell of ink and paper at a bookstore. Stationary. Hard abs and muscles. In that order.
17. What turns you off?
Hypocritical, passive-aggressive and judgmental people. And seafood.
18. What is your favorite curse word?
Fuck, of course. Classic, versatile, and a mutli-purposed punch-line.
19. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
I want a high-five and a bear-hug. And, “You were everything you wanted be.”
