I met Courtney Alexander for the first time at the Northwest Tarot Symposium in Portland. She looked regal. I’m not just saying that. Her hair was in twists on the top of her head and she was wearing a crown. There are few people who make me stare because of their beauty and Courtney is one of them.
She’s also really nice and funny as hell. She was vending her prints of the Dust II Onyx tarot that was released in late 2017. It was a Kickstarter success, and is one of the few decks that I’ve seen that features black people in a way that isn’t sterotypical or fetishized. Every card in this deck is a work of Art.
The cardstock FEELS good in your hands. It’s sturdy – which is so important in decks with black cardstock. The metallic accents in the pictures make the whole card pop.
Representation – yes. Men and women of all ages and sizes are in this deck.
The box is gorgeous, the book is intense and lovely, and it reads like a dream. I think that covers it. Well done, Courtney – you’ve made something amazing.
