I am a candle burning, hoopdancing, manifesting, novel reading, word-loving Mistress of Cartomancy – Ms. V (yes!)

I don’t get readings very often, but I’m pretty particular about who reads for me. I reached out to V when I was super stressed and this woman SAW me. She made everything better, too. I first heard about V from Ryan Edward, artist and card-slinger. He said that he’d met a woman at Readers Studio with such energy and vivacity that he knew we’d be good friends. He wasn’t wrong. Meet V. She’s a badass. You can find her at the links below.  xo LIS LFT Questionnaire 1.  What you appreciate the most in your friends. I appreciate loyalty …

Rainbows in the dark – Mellissae Lucia

I met Mellissae Lucia at my first Northwest Tarot Symposium. This was the first tarot conference I’d ever attended, and I was nervous as hell. Not around her, though. She has this amazing smile and energy and laugh that makes you feel like you belong wherever you are and are welcome there. Mellissae has an amazing oracle deck that I received just when I needed it. The Oracle of Initiation is officially the second oracle deck that I like. The images are not cheery and bright, but dark, beautiful and intense. You can read here about Mellissae’s journey in making …

In my view, tarot is a wonderful tool for accessing the power of story, for examining the personal in light of the mythic and archetypal, for re-writing endings and creating new beginnings. – Marianne

I found Marianne from Two Sides Tarot on Instagram. I’m in love with tarot and with artists, and seeing the tarot displayed as art – welp. I’ve got a crush on Marianne. She’s got a fantastic website with deck reviews, interviews and insight into the cards.  I’m always astounded by folks who email, asking why I promote other readers on my site. I can only say that I will never stop learning, and if I find a good teacher, I like to make sure other people know about them.  SO – go check out Marianne. Get a reading, check out …

Read like the Devil – Camelia Elias

I found Camelia Elias in a roundabout way. My friend, Ryan Edward, artist and cartographer extraordinaire, took classes with her a few years ago, and they became friends. When Ryan and I got together, I would get to learn second-hand about Camelia’s view of the cards and reading and the world, and I became fascinated. Even the way she offers readings on her site is wonderful “Few cards on the table” “Many cards on the table”. I’ve struggled in the past with pricing my readings, because I don’t time them. My solution was “60 minute-ish reading”. Hers is much more …

Watch for me by moonlight – Alfred Noyes

Rosemary Wise is one of three outstanding siblings. Her brother, Frank Andrews, has been reading tarot professionally in New York City for over 50 years. Her sister, Terry Iacuzzo, also in the City, has been reading tarot for nearly 40 years. Rosemary has been reading in her quiet corner of upstate New York quietly for almost as long. Rosemary has a skill called psychometry. This is the ability to pick up psychic impressions from touching or seeing an object. Show Rosemary the pictures and she’ll tell you who the people are. Hand her your your watch and she’ll tell you …

AFFIRMATIONS: you are valued. you are never alone. you are deserving. you are a bulletproof pegasus who drinks acid rain. you are enough – Maggie Stiefvater

I found the the series “The Raven Cycle” by ruthlessly judging a book by its cover. I got the audiobooks from my library, and listened to them like it was my job. Only once before have I read a book that portrayed tarot readers as something other than stereotypes. (The Grift by Debra Ginsburg) There is a house full of tarot readers and psychics, a young, awkward but brilliantly smart and funny protagonist, four earnest young men, and a story that weaves in and out of socioeconomic issues and magic. It’s urban fantasy at it’s best. Here are some questions …

There was magic at work when this community got together and created something extraordinary – Shelley Carter

I met so many amazing people at my first Readers Studio in New York. One of those was Shelley Carter,  Shelley is an artist and a tarot reader who lives in probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen – Elora, Ontario, Canada.  Shelley and 65 of her fellow artists created a tarot deck comprised of 78 works of art. I’ve owned a couple of decks with contributions from various artists – the Amanda Palmer tarot, for example. One of the drawbacks to a multi-artist deck is that the different artistic styles can seem disjointed. I’m happy to say this …

Gratitude in all things, no picking and choosing and Let Love Radiate. – Jill Campana

One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most about having the book published is that people let me know what they think of it. I’ve gotten the nicest emails and facebook messages from folks, and it’s been really wonderful. One of those connections was with Jill Campana, a fellow Missouri girl (who lives in Wisconsin) who was also carried away by the cards. She wrote me a lovely email and told me about her amazing and fascinating life. She’s owns a company with her husband, and is a Black Belt Nia Practitioner, Awakening the Tarot Facilitator, Reiki Master Teacher, Meditation Facilitator, Chakradance Workshop …

T is for The Bonefire Tarot

So, I have discovered that I have a superpower. This has been a long time in the making. I’ve gotten tarot books and decks for review before, and I even write reviews for muggle books in my spare time. I have developed relationships with a few publishers, and am very careful to be respectful of those relationships.  Then I saw this deck – the Bonefire Tarot – and I swear to all the gods my brain was taken up by the GimmeGimmeGimme’s! Gimme that deck! I took a deep breath, and respectfully reached out to Schiffer Publishing and asked if …

Clowns are scary. I am not. So get in touch, yo. – Fabeku Fatunmise

I’ve only recently discovered podcasts, and have been listening to the Hermit’s Lamp podcast like it’s my job. Each guest has been engaging for different reasons. Their history with tarot, their personal experiences as a professional reader or author, and some really cool theories about divination, spirituality and the world and whatnot. NOW – there was this one fella – I’d recently heard about him from Briana Saussy and Theresa Reed. How nice he was and funny, etc. Then I listened to his podcast. This was the first time I’d heard a disclaimer before the show –there was going to …
