X is for Ex #atozchallenge

First of all, I totally failed the A to Z challenge, because it’s May, but I’m no quitter, so you get three more posts to finish this off. 🙂  One of the questions I receive most often from clients is, “Will he/she/they come back?” This is kind of a gallows-humor joke among readers, because it happens SO OFTEN, and most of the time, the answer is no. It’s a question that people will go from reader to reader to ask. I’ve had someone sit in front of me and tell me that I’m the tenth reader they’ve been to and …

N is for Nervous #atozchallenge

I’m a nervous kind of girl. When I was a new reader, I remember having a mild freakout before each reading. That my readings were going to suck, and none of them would be accurate, and the client was going to rise up out of their seat and point at me, shouting, “J’accuse! Shenanigans!” I swear to god, every time. I had to call my friend Kitten before my gigs to get talked out of my tree. It was ridiculous. This lasted until like five years ago. I still get a little nervous, but not in the same, gut punch …

H is for Hostility #atozchallenge

Oh, I’m sorry. Was that your auntie? Tarot, like any other field, can be chock full of asshats. Both clients and colleagues alike. When you first start reading, you might feel obligated to read for whomever sits in your chair. This can lead to some seriously awful readings. So what do you do? When someone sits down and rolls their eyes at you. When someone starts praying on or at you vociferously? What do you do? You tell them to go away. As politely as you feel you need to. I’ve been doing this for a while, and I’m kind …

G is for Gratitude #atozchallenge

What do you do when you have everything you wanted and asked for?  You say thank you. This year has been a bit tricky for me. I lost my job, my kid got hurt, my kid had surgery, I got really sick twice (for about a month and a half total) and I got my partner sick. I tried to be really selective finding a new job that was a good fit, but it spiraled me into that anxious place where I never find another job and we lose the house and then I die and my cats eat me …

D is for Donation #atozchallenge

Doing tarot readings for charities is a tricky thing for a few reasons, so I’m going to break it down for you. Now, this is for professional readers, not for folks who pull out their cards for an hour or two to help out with the cookie drive, ok? If you are a professional reader who claims their tarot expenses on their taxes, this is for you. If you get PAID to do readings? This is mostly for you, too.  STORYTIME! One time, I did a reading for a local charity that I adored. I got paid in advance and …

Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind. ― Henry James

I would be willing to bet that most Republicans are as appalled by their presidential candidate as I am. I grew up with Republicans, and most of them are honest, hard-working, kind people. My parents are Republicans, and as far as I know, they’ve never grabbed a woman without her permission. They aren’t racist, xenophobic shitbags. They aren’t as vulgar as their daughter, and they are kind, good people. I would be willing to bet that most of the people voting for the Democratic candidate disagree with her on some level, or have a problem with her past to some …
