“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.” ― Paulo Coelho

It’s review time! I got quite a haul at Reader’s Studio this year, and am also in the cool position to receive decks from publishers to review. I’m not mad about it. I haven’t had a lot o time lately (what with finishing my next book and all), but I wanted to knock these out and tell you what I think of them.  I think I should also share that if I get a deck from a publisher that I don’t like, I won’t review it. I think that’s fair considering they send them for free. So if I get …

You are destined to thrive! -Shaheen Miro

I received the Lunar Nomad Oracle from Weiser Books, and for a second, had a bit of a hissy. I don’t historically like oracle decks, and I can’t read Lenormand (yet) and this deck is a bit of both (Lenoracle?) What I didn’t expect, though, was the instant connection I felt with the deck. The artwork is beautiful and the size of the cards make it necessary to be deliberate while handling them. I had a reading one night and was at a friend’s house. I realized that I’d left without a tarot deck, and used this instead. The reading …

What we feel and think and are is to a great extent determined by the state of our ductless glands and viscera. Aldous Huxley

In my Red Wheel/Weiser package, I found this beautiful (and I mean beautiful) Chakra Reading Card set. Let’s talk about packaging for just a sec. Most tuck boxes go directly into storage for me. If they don’t tear when you open them, they will the next time you use them. Red Wheel has these amazing THICK boxes with magnetic flaps to close the lids. They’re pretty, sturdy and I know that I can keep my cards in them for the life of the deck. Can I get an amen for Red Wheel? The card stock, again, is fantastic. Easy to …

The more you know, the less you need. -Australian Aboriginal saying

I got a goodie box from Red Wheel/Weiser that included these lovely Aboriginal oracle decks. If you know me, oracle cards and I haven’t always gotten along. I’ve always used RWS tarot, and I miss the structure and my major arcana. Ethony ruined everything by coming out with her amazing Awakened Soul oracle (jerk) and now, it seems, the floodgates are open. I didn’t know anything about the creator of these two decks – the Aboriginal Goddess Chakra Oracle and the Aboriginal Spirit Oracle. I was wincing as I went through the book. I don’t know if I can take …

Rainbows in the dark – Mellissae Lucia

I met Mellissae Lucia at my first Northwest Tarot Symposium. This was the first tarot conference I’d ever attended, and I was nervous as hell. Not around her, though. She has this amazing smile and energy and laugh that makes you feel like you belong wherever you are and are welcome there. Mellissae has an amazing oracle deck that I received just when I needed it. The Oracle of Initiation is officially the second oracle deck that I like. The images are not cheery and bright, but dark, beautiful and intense. You can read here about Mellissae’s journey in making …

I bear a charmed life. – W. Shakespeare

I am a tarot girl – it’s even in the name.  I’ve been reading cards since I was 14, so…25 years.  I’ve seen oracle decks in the past and have completely ignored them.  Not for me.  Those weird Motherpeace Tarot that are round?  Nope.  Runes – no.  I-Ching – nope.  Spirit boards- no, thank you (also kill it with fire). This year, however, is apparently the year that I challenge myself and my gift.  My sweet man has gotten me two oracle decks, and instructions to “Do your homework, woman.  Challenge yourself”.  Grr.  Fine.  So, here I am – challenging …
