Hey guys,

In amazing news, this month there have been marches for Black Trans Lives Matter. I would encourage you to look up the footage of the thousands of people who came out to stand up for this community. It really lifted my heart.

Even though our government revoked healthcare protection for the trans community, it also made it illegal to discriminate in the workplace against gay and trans folks, so it’s a mixed bag. Here’s hoping that we keep getting victories, and thank you to the folks who fought for this change.

I wanted to share some resources for helping the Black Trans Community. This is the last day I’m still raising money and sending care packages to those who donate.

Remember that we are as vulnerable as the most vulnerable people in our society. When they hurt, we hurt. When they lose dignity, we lose dignity. It is our job to put ourselves in the fight until we can all stand together.

The Okra Project – The Okra Project is a collective that seeks to address the global crisis faced by Black Trans people by bringing home cooked, healthy, and culturally specific meals and resources to Black Trans People wherever we can reach them.

Black Trans Circles –  develops the leadership of Black trans women in the South and Midwest through the creation of healing justice spaces to work through oppression-based trauma and incubate community organizing efforts to address anti-trans murder and violence.

TGI Justice Project –  is a group of transgender, gender variant and intersex people—inside and outside of prisons, jails and detention centers—creating a united family in the struggle for survival and freedom.

Black Trans.Org – Advocating for black trans Health Equality, fighting for our human right to high quality, safe, and stigma-free health care.  Advocating for black trans Housing Equality, fighting for our human right to affordable, accessible and habitable housing.  Advocating for black trans Employment Equality, fighting for our human right to earn a living wage that affords basic living expenses.

Send me your receipt of donation and your address, and I’ll mail you a goodie.

Thank you again to everyone who donated. As of this morning, we have raised $1400 for Metro Trans Umbrella Group and the Bail Project.

ALSO – I asked myself, Self? Would you feel safe traveling in November? And no. No I wouldn’t. So I’m cancelling Kitchen Table Gathering and recreating it as an online Gathering. Same teachers, same classes, with a live hang out with the authors. <3 We got this.

Xoxo!!
