Augenblick – from Middle High German *ougenblick* meaning “Quick Glance” – Shannon Loftis

A couple of years ago, I was sitting next to the as-yet-unknown-to-me Shannon Loftis a the Northwest Tarot Symposium. We were told to take our tarot decks out for the exercise and she pulled out this gorgeous, square tarot deck that I’d never seen before. What the hell. I began annoying her immediately. Where did it come from? What do you mean you can read it sideways?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU MADE IT? Like, created it? What magic is this? The Augenblick tarot was created with images from the Library of Congress. It can be read reversed, right side …

What we feel and think and are is to a great extent determined by the state of our ductless glands and viscera. Aldous Huxley

In my Red Wheel/Weiser package, I found this beautiful (and I mean beautiful) Chakra Reading Card set. Let’s talk about packaging for just a sec. Most tuck boxes go directly into storage for me. If they don’t tear when you open them, they will the next time you use them. Red Wheel has these amazing THICK boxes with magnetic flaps to close the lids. They’re pretty, sturdy and I know that I can keep my cards in them for the life of the deck. Can I get an amen for Red Wheel? The card stock, again, is fantastic. Easy to …

Ethony ruined everything by coming out with her amazing Awakened Soul oracle (jerk) and now, it seems, the floodgates are open. I didn’t know anything about the creator of these two decks – the Aboriginal Goddess Chakra Oracle and the Aboriginal Spirit Oracle. I was wincing as I went through the book. I don’t know if I can take …

The magician and the politician have much in common: they both have to draw our attention away from what they are really doing. -Ben Okri

Gotta respect a fellow who wears a snake for a belt. The Magician in tarot is a confident guy. He’s got to be – we’re his audience. He’s got all of his tools laid out before him and chooses his own magic wand and his finger to work with. He’s electric – kinetic, even. He’s practiced these moves for months, for years, even. Practiced and honed his craft until they were flawless. Only then does he come out to dazzle us.  The Magician has the same degree of swagger that you find in Snoop Dogg or Adam Lambert. He’s not …
