Sometimes it is better to light a flamethrower than curse the darkness – Terry Pratchett

The days between Christmas and New Year’s Day tend to be floaty, ethereal, weird things that I call the In-Betweens. The kids aren’t in school and work days are weird and I always seem to spend the days crawling into my brain and rooting around. I look for things to throw out and look for things to bring home.  This isn’t always successful.  I threw smoking away every year for about a decade – and it always came back. I decided to exercise once back in the 90’s and it lasted for six months, and then went away again.   …

Here is what is truly at the heart of wholeheartedness: Worthy now. Not if. Not when. We are worthy of love and belonging now. Right this minute. As is. – Brene Brown

I recently wrote an article for Yoga and Spa Magazine about comparing yourself to others, and how it never really works out. It’s stuck in my head, and I went to a bar tonight (which I never do anymore) and was watching all of the people while thinking about this. There were scantily clad dancers working there, and my feminism backed up on me. Misogyny! Right? Maybe? The guys were wearing jeans and t-shirts and the women were wearing crop tops, bikini bottoms, assless chaps and cowboy boots. Then I started thinking about friends who paid their way through college …

Without promotion, something terrible happens…nothing! -PT Barnum

I’ve just contacted about 30 different media outlets regarding the release of LFT: Elements on January 1. I have an honest to God press kit (see here).  Everything is ready to go and the shop is nearly ready to post. And I feel like I”m going to throw up.   Why is it so hard to promote ourselves? Or to that end, to compliment ourselves?  I’ve worked my ass off for this program. I’m super proud of it and I know it’s good, yet, when I call these people I’m all bashful and self-deprecating. It doesn’t serve me. I nearly …

My friend, Ryan, has this bad habit of showing me beautiful tarot decks. We are both members of the St. Louis Card Slingers – a very small (5) group of tarot nerds who meet monthly and geek out about tarot cards. He is also an artist whose Lenormand decks are available here, and who designed my logo. So, Ryan, nice guy that he is, has impeccable taste. He dangles these amazing decks in front of me and you know, I’m only human! At least, this is what I tell my partner every time I buy a new tarot deck. Ryan posts …

We are more than the parts that form us – Patrick Rothfuss

Every year, Pat Rothfuss (we’ve met twice for less than a minute each time.  I call him Pat. Deal) sponsors this gigantic Nerd Driven charity drive called Worldbuilders.  From the website: Worldbuilders is a charity founded by author Pat Rothfuss in order to use the collective power of readers, fellow authors and book lovers to make the world a better place. During the Worldbuilders fundraiser, Pat blogs about the cool book donations we receive from authors and publishers (and all the other cool swag from artists, webcomics, etc.) Everyone who donates to Heifer International through our Team Heifer page is eligible to receive one …
